Frattesi dismissed Roma return rumors, focuses on Inter and Italy

Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi has addressed recent speculation about a potential return to Roma, describing the rumors as “entertaining” but ultimately unfounded. The 25-year-old Italian international, who has had limited playing time at Inter this season, spoke candidly about his situation during an interview with Rai Sport from Italy’s training camp in Coverciano.

Regarding the Roma rumours, Frattesi stated, “I was amused because I read about this, but there was nothing true about it.” This confirmation puts to rest any speculation about a move back to his boyhood club during the final days of the transfer window.

Frattesi also reflected on Italy’s disappointing performance at Euro 2024, where they were eliminated by Switzerland in the round of 16. “The disappointment was huge because we were unable to give our people an important satisfaction. These weren’t the best holidays we could have, but now we’re here and ready to start again,” he said.

Addressing the issue of responsibility for the team’s failure, Frattesi shared a balanced view: “The blame is always half because it’s us who go on the field. If the players perform poorly, it’s their fault. I’ve always thought this in other types of situations too. It’s honorable for the coach to take responsibility, but we all made mistakes equally. We understood what we did wrong, we need to start over because it was a big blow for us and for all the Azzurri supporters. It was a heavy stain.”

Turning to his current situation at Inter Milan, Frattesi acknowledged the need for personal improvement: “I always have to give more because you can always improve, so certainly speaking of the build-up phase, a step forward needs to be made.” He also commented on the increased competition in midfield following Piotr Zielinski’s arrival: “We’ll have to elbow our way to get more minutes.”

Looking ahead to Italy’s upcoming UEFA Nations League match against France, Frattesi mentioned facing his Inter teammate Marcus Thuram: “Great person and great player, always smiling. I hope he smiles less after the match.”
