Italian striker Francesco Caputo has officially announced his retirement from professional football, marking the end of an illustrious career spanning over two decades. The 37-year-old, known affectionately as “Ciccio” to fans and teammates alike, made the announcement through an emotional video shared on his social media platforms.

In his heartfelt message, Caputo expressed his initial desire to bid farewell on the pitch, scoring one last goal and performing his signature celebration. However, he acknowledged that life sometimes leads us to make decisions that gradually mature within us.

The former Empoli and Sassuolo star reassured fans that this isn’t a complete disappearance from the football world. “This doesn’t mean that ‘Ciccio’ will vanish. On the contrary, it’s just the beginning of a new version of myself: a more mature, more aware Ciccio, ready to experience new adventures,” he stated.

Caputo’s career boasts impressive numbers, with over 550 appearances and 201 goals scored across various Italian clubs. He took the opportunity to express gratitude to everyone who played a part in his journey, including supporters, critics, clubs, presidents, directors, coaches, staff, and teammates.

The striker, who last played for Empoli, also extended special thanks to his agent, lawyer, and management team for their continued support as he prepares to write this new chapter in his life.

In a touching moment, Caputo reserved his most heartfelt appreciation for his family. He thanked his wife and three children for being his refuge, strength, and greatest motivation, acknowledging their unwavering support through both the highs and lows of his career.

Caputo concluded his announcement with a message of hope and determination: “Today, I’m closing an important chapter of my life, but I’m opening a new one with the same determination and desire to challenge myself. I know I can count on you, on your affection and support, which have been and will always be my greatest drive. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a new beginning. See you soon, more ready and stronger than ever!”
