Former French international Jeremy Menez has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37. The talented attacker, who most recently played for Bari in Italy, revealed his decision in an interview with French outlet Lazone.
“I’ve been in professional football for over 20 years and I’m saturated with it all,” Menez stated, explaining his reasons for hanging up his boots.
Menez’s career spanned two decades and saw him play for several high-profile clubs across Europe. He made a significant impact in Italian football, wearing the shirts of Roma and AC Milan among others. The Frenchman also had successful stints with Paris Saint-Germain in his home country.
Throughout his career, Menez showcased his skills as both a scorer and creator, netting 99 goals and providing 90 assists in 563 appearances across all competitions.
While Menez is stepping away from playing, he doesn’t plan to leave football entirely. Looking ahead to his future, he said, “It will always be in football, not as a player but in a technical staff. In June I’ll get my license and we’ll see.”
