AC Milan secured their second consecutive victory in Serie A, defeating Lecce 3-0 at the San Siro. This win follows their triumph in the Milan derby and marks a significant turnaround for Paulo Fonseca’s side after a challenging start to the season.
In the post-match interview, Fonseca expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance: “After the first two matches, we didn’t expect this moment. But that’s the beauty of football; things change quickly. Winning the derby was important, and winning today was equally so.”
The Portuguese coach highlighted the team’s overall improvement, particularly praising Fofana’s adaptation to his new role: “He’s an important player, but the whole team has evolved. He’s doing well and gaining confidence. It’s a new position for him, but I feel he’s growing.”
Looking ahead to their upcoming match against Bayer Leverkusen in Europe, Fonseca acknowledged the challenge: “It will be a totally different game. We haven’t been lucky in Europe, playing against Liverpool and now Leverkusen. It will be very difficult, but we’ll prepare for it.”
Fonseca also commended the partnership between Morata and Abraham, noting how their energy has positively influenced the team: “This formation is possible thanks to Morata’s characteristics, occasionally moving between the lines. I really like the energy they bring; it’s contagious because we see Leao working harder too, following these examples.”
The coach reserved special praise for Rafael Leao’s development: “I’ve always told Leao he’s great, but now he needs to become a player for the team. Being captain is a responsibility. I like that he’s decisive, like with the assist. But I like even more the growth he’s showing in defending. Today he’s a different player. He’s not perfect yet, but I’m seeing the effort he’s putting in to help the team.”
