Juventus’ hopes of securing Ronald Araujo as a defensive reinforcement this transfer window have been dealt a significant blow following comments from Barcelona manager Hansi Flick. On the eve of the Spanish Supercopa final against Real Madrid, Flick sought to quash rumours of Araujo’s potential departure, emphasizing the player’s importance to the team.
The German coach expressed his admiration for Araujo, who has recently returned from a severe biceps femoris tendon injury. Flick stated, “I’ve noticed there are many rumours. Ronald has come back from a terrible injury and is now ready to play. He’s a good option and a very professional player. We’ve taken great care of him. It’s not my job to discuss rumours, but I want him in my team. He’s one of the best defenders out there.”
Reports from Spain suggest that Barcelona has rebuffed an offer from Juventus, which Marca claims was in the region of 35 million euros. Mundo Deportivo further reports that Barcelona does not consider the player to be on the market unless an offer of at least 70 million euros is received.
The Italian club finds itself in a waiting game. Sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli is reportedly open to considering a loan with an option to buy. However, given the latest developments from Spain, it seems unlikely that Barcelona would accept such terms. The Catalan club’s need to generate funds complicates matters, as does Flick’s recent endorsement of Araujo.
Juventus’ strategy now hinges on Giuntoli’s ability to negotiate a lower price and leverage the player’s potential desire to move to Turin. However, Flick’s strong statements in support of Araujo may have changed the dynamics of the negotiation.
