Fiorentina Reject Proposal to Sign Paul Pogba

Start

Paul Pogba, the French midfielder and former Juventus star, was recently proposed to Fiorentina as he seeks a return to professional football following an extended absence. According to reports from Corriere dello Sport, Pogba was offered to the Viola despite the transfer window being closed, with the intention of finding him a club before his expected return to action in March. However, Fiorentina’s management has decided against pursuing the deal.

Pogba has been sidelined for nearly 18 months due to a suspension but is now preparing for a comeback. Despite his illustrious career, which includes a World Cup victory in 2018, Fiorentina’s leadership—comprising Rocco Commisso, Joe Barone, Daniele Pradè, and Valentino Angeloni—opted not to move forward with the proposal. The club carefully evaluated the opportunity but ultimately chose not to add Pogba to their midfield roster.

This decision comes after Fiorentina made significant reinforcements during the winter transfer window, bringing in Nicolò Fagioli from Juventus, Nicolò Zaniolo from Galatasaray, and Warren Bondo from Paris Saint-Germain. The club appears confident in its current squad and saw no need for additional signings in midfield.

One major obstacle in securing Pogba’s services is his high salary demands. During his last contract with Juventus, Pogba earned €8 million per season plus €2 million in bonuses—a figure deemed excessive given his current circumstances. Reports suggest that Pogba may need to significantly lower his wage expectations if he hopes to secure a new club.

While Fiorentina has declined the opportunity, Pogba remains on the market as he looks for a team willing to take a chance on him. With his return to football imminent, it remains to be seen which club will step forward to offer him a fresh start.
