Fiorentina kick off 2025 with Nicolas Valentini signing

Start

Nicolas Valentini’s New Year’s celebrations were cut short as he embarked on a new chapter in his football career. The 23-year-old Argentine defender arrived at Viola Park early on January 1st, 2025, to begin his journey with Fiorentina. Valentini is set to sign a four-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him with the club until June 2029.

Calciomercato detail how the young center-back, who plays for Argentina’s Under-23 team, became a free agent at the end of 2024 after his contract with Boca Juniors expired. Negotiations for a renewal with the Argentine club had broken down in April, leading to his exclusion from the first team.

Valentini has spent the last eight months keeping fit independently, with Fiorentina attempting to secure his services earlier in the summer. However, the Italian club couldn’t reach an agreement with Boca Juniors regarding compensation. Now, Valentini arrives as a free agent, ready to provide competition for captain Luca Ranieri in the heart of Fiorentina’s defense.

The Argentine’s arrival comes as Martinez Quarta prepares to depart for River Plate. To further bolster their defensive options, Fiorentina manager Raffaele Palladino has already secured an agreement with Pablo Marí, whom he previously coached at Monza. Negotiations with Monza are expected to commence once their CEO, Adriano Galliani, returns from vacation.

Fiorentina fans won’t have to wait long to catch a glimpse of their new signing. The club has organized an open training session at the Stadio Artemio Franchi for 2:30 PM on New Year’s Day, where Valentini will be officially presented to the supporters.
