Fiorentina confirm Gudmundsson’s Injury: Recovery timeline revealed

Start

Fiorentina have released the eagerly awaited results of the medical examinations undergone by Icelandic number 10 Albert Gudmundsson. The former Genoa player was forced off the pitch after just 5 minutes during the match that Fiorentina went on to win 6-0 against Lecce in Salento.

The official club statement reads: “ACF Fiorentina announces that this morning, player Albert Gudmundsson underwent radiological tests to assess the extent of the injury sustained during the match against Lecce on Sunday, October 20. The diagnostic examinations revealed a grade I/II lesion of the myotendinous junction of the biceps femoris in the right thigh. The player has already begun the therapeutic process established by the Viola medical staff.”

Regarding his return, Calciomercato report that Gudmundsson is expected to be sidelined for a good month. While a four-week recovery period is typically expected for a grade I lesion, the communiqué indicates a “grade I/II” injury, suggesting a potentially longer recovery time. There is some hope of seeing him back in good condition in December, though much depends on how the muscle responds to the recovery process.

The most optimistic scenario would see him potentially available for selection for the match against Como after the November international break. This means Gudmundsson is likely to miss the upcoming matches against St. Gallen, Roma, Genoa, Torino, APOEL, and Verona – all games scheduled before the league’s pause.
