Fiorentina forward Christian Kouame has been admitted to the hospital after contracting malaria while participating in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Kouame, an Ivory Coast international, played a pivotal role in his team’s success at the tournament, but his return to Florence has been marred by health complications.
The confirmation of Kouame’s diagnosis came through a statement released by Fiorentina, shedding light on the player’s deteriorating health upon his return from the AFCON celebrations. Reports indicated that Kouame experienced symptoms of illness, including a high fever, prompting immediate medical attention.
Upon undergoing tests, Kouame tested positive for malaria, a serious and potentially life-threatening disease transmitted through mosquito bites.
