Fiorentina have issued a statement regarding midfielder Edoardo Bove, who is currently in intensive care following his collapse during the Serie A match against Inter Milan. The club confirmed that while Bove is under sedation, tests have ruled out any serious cardiological or neurological damage.
The incident occurred just 17 minutes into the match at the Stadio Artemio Franchi. Bove collapsed unexpectedly on the field, prompting immediate medical attention. He was quickly transported to Careggi University Hospital, where he was reported to be breathing independently and regained consciousness during the ambulance ride.
In their official statement, Fiorentina noted, “ACF Fiorentina and Careggi University Hospital have announced that footballer Edoardo Bove, who was treated on the pitch following a loss of consciousness during the Fiorentina vs. Inter match, is currently under sedation and hospitalized in intensive care. The Viola player arrived at the emergency department in stable haemodynamic conditions, and initial cardiological and neurological tests have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and the cardio-respiratory system. Bove will be re-evaluated in the next 24 hours.”
As a result of the medical emergency, the match was suspended and will be rescheduled for a later date. According to Serie A protocol, play will resume from the point it was halted, starting from the 18th minute at a 0-0 scoreline.
Bove, who joined Fiorentina this summer on loan from Roma for €1.5 million with an option to make the move permanent for an additional €10.5 million, has been a key player for the team under coach Raffaele Palladino.
