Feyenoord head coach Brian Priske has addressed the potential transfer of star striker Santiago Gimenez to AC Milan, who coincidentally could be their opponents in the upcoming Champions League playoff round. Speaking after the draw in Nyon, Priske acknowledged the delicate situation surrounding the Mexican forward.
“As a coach, my job is to get the most out of the players I have available,” Priske stated. He emphasized his strong working relationship with Feyenoord’s sporting director Dennis te Kloese, saying, “I have an incredibly good working relationship with Dennis te Kloese, and we are on the same page. Our sporting director does what is best for this club, even when it comes to a possible departure of Gimenez.”
Priske expressed his desire to retain Gimenez, praising the player’s abilities: “I would like to keep Santi because he is a very good player. I hope we can keep him, but it’s not just my decision.” The coach showed understanding for Gimenez’s ambitions, acknowledging the allure of playing for a club like Milan. “I understand that players have a lot of ambition. It’s part of football when players want to play in big competitions because it’s important to have ambition. The fuel for people in sports is to realize dreams, so I definitely understand Gimenez. Everyone knows that Milan is one of his dream clubs.”
However, Priske also noted Gimenez’s current injury status, revealing, “Now he is injured and today he did not train with us.”
