Federico Chiesa’s Liverpool stint in jeopardy: Potential Serie A return on the horizon

Start

Federico Chiesa’s adventure with Liverpool has not unfolded as hoped, and with the January transfer window approaching, a premature departure is becoming increasingly plausible. The 27-year-old Italian winger recently made his return to the pitch after nearly three months of absence, featuring in a League Cup match against Southampton. However, Chiesa is reportedly dissatisfied with the limited playing time afforded to him by manager Arne Slot and may be considering a move away from Anfield.

Since the beginning of the season, the former Juventus attacker has become something of an enigma at Liverpool. He has made only four appearances totalling 123 minutes, with his last significant game time coming at the end of September before his recent League Cup cameo. Slot addressed Chiesa’s situation in a press conference before a Premier League match against Fulham, stating, “What he needs is to play, but the problem is that if a player hasn’t played for five or six months, it’s sometimes difficult for a coach to give him his first minutes because you don’t know exactly what to expect.”

Calciomercato report how despite his current struggles, Chiesa is not short of suitors, particularly in Serie A, where he previously terrorized defences while playing for Fiorentina and Juventus. Inter Milan has been repeatedly linked with the player, though they would need to make room in their squad first. Roma and AC Milan have also been mentioned as potential destinations, but Chiesa’s high wages present a significant obstacle. Napoli is another club that could potentially strengthen their roster with the Italian forward.

However, the paths leading to Chiesa’s Serie A return remain somewhat in the background for now. His current salary of nearly 7.5 million euros net per season is a considerable factor. Nevertheless, clubs intent on bringing the 27-year-old back to Italy might consider a loan deal, with part of his wages potentially covered by Liverpool. This arrangement could provide Chiesa with an opportunity to rediscover his best form and regain full fitness.
