Juventus winger Federico Chiesa believes a ‘great future’ awaits him and his teammates as they are ‘a group of fantastic guys who want to put themselves at the disposal of the coach.’ The Italy international has recently returned from injury and made a telling impact in the Bianconeri’s 3-0 win over Lazio last night, setting up the final goal.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Chiesa shared his experiences over the last year and why his return was delayed due to concerns over his injury:
“It’s nice to be here and return to my previous routine. It has been 10 infinite months, in August when the finish line seemed to be there, at each workout I had knee problems, I had to do checks, I flew back to Innsbruck, the month of August was really terrible but with strength and tenacity and having people who loved me around me, I came out of it. It took me 2 months to resume the previous form, then returning with the team and the call up against PSG was the closing of a circle.”
How do you plan to return to the top in January?
“I would have been more pleased to participate in the World Cup but I will take advantage of this break to take the ‘ritiro’ that I did not have in July, so for me it will be like starting from the beginning and then I will try to help the team in January. As I returned with the team, my desire was so great, the call up against PSG was so unexpected, I didn’t expect it, I told the coach that I was ready and I wanted to help the team.
We have not demonstrated the qualities in the Champions League but in the championship we have made steadied ourselves and we see what can be done in January.”
How did you experience that difficult period of Juventus?
“I strongly believe that we have a group of fantastic guys who want to put themselves at the disposal of the coach and a great future awaits us because we managed to get out of a really bad period, but we tried to come out of it, and the most important thing was cohesion of the group. Together, we wanted to get out of it at all costs because Juve didn’t deserve that situation and I think 3-0 is the right result tonight.”
Do you see yourself in this 3-5-2?
“I have always demonstrated I can play on the flank, I feel good and I played my best football on the flank, when it was needed, I also played second striker, today I was happy to return to that position”.
