Ahead of Como’s upcoming match against Roma, head coach Cesc Fabregas shared his thoughts on the team’s preparation and strategy. The Spanish manager acknowledged the strength of their opponents while emphasizing Como’s determination to secure a victory.
“We always want to win, but we know that Roma is a very strong team, stronger than us also in terms of individuals. This will be an extra incentive for us to do well and fight with all our energy,” Fabregas stated.
He outlined the team’s tactical approach, emphasizing the importance of defensive solidity and calm possession. “We will have to be compact and pay a lot of attention to the defensive phase. We must be calm in possession and ball control without getting nervous and play with our usual mentality,” he explained.
Fabregas also highlighted the significance of exploiting spaces and utilizing the wingers effectively. “It will be important to use all the spaces on the pitch and use the wingers well to try and find the right moment to come in and arrive dangerously in the opponent’s penalty area,” he added.
Regarding the team’s formation and player selection, Fabregas revealed that while he has decided on the formation, he is still finalizing the starting lineup. “I’ve decided on the formation but not yet who will play because we have a problem on the left flank as there’s practically no one available. Besides Moreno, Sala is also unavailable,” he said.
The manager mentioned that goalkeeper Pepe Reina is likely to retain his place, while the midfield selection is still under consideration. “In midfield, there’s a choice to be made between Da Cunha, Mazzitelli, and Engelhardt, but it’s also important to know that Sergi Roberto will be part of the match,” Fabregas noted.
Speaking about Sergi Roberto’s return from injury, Fabregas provided an update on the player’s condition. “Sergi is returning but not as a starter. The medical staff thinks he can play 20-25 minutes, while against Inter he might be able to give 60 minutes, and then gradually he’ll be ready to start and play a full match,” he explained./
