Fabio Cannavaro to join Udinese

Start

Udinese have made the decision to sack Gabriele Cioffi and will replace him with former Guangzhou and Benevento coach Fabio Cannavaro. With three defeats and a draw in the last 4 matches, the Bianconeri have been caught on 28 points by Frosinone in the third-to-last position in the standings, two points above Sassuolo in last place. Three points above them are Verona and Empoli, winners on the latest matchday with five rounds to go until the end of the season.

Calciomercato report that the names of Leonardo Semplici, Andrea Stramaccioni, Edoardo Reja, and Fabio Cannavaro were on the table, but the captain of the World Cup-winning National team of 2006 has emerged victorious, preparing for the opportunity to save Udinese.

The website suggest that today is the day for formalities; the contract has already been signed until the end of the season with no options, to be renegotiated in case of a new contract in the summer. This morning, Fabio Cannavaro (together with his brother Paolo and Emanuele Troise) set off from Naples on the journey to Udine.

Cioffi concludes his second experience in Udine on a sour note: taking over from Andrea Sottil on the tenth matchday, in 23 league matches, he managed 4 wins (beating Milan and Juventus away), 10 draws, and 9 defeats, the latest of which, signed by Veronese Coppola in the last minute of recovery time.
