Exclusive interview with Raffaele Caru: “No Inter player is deemed untouchable”

Start

While many of us expected the January transfer window to be a soothing period to Inter compared to what the Nerazzurri have endured over the course of the summer, the winter mercato has been utterly quite the opposite as it was filled with a shocking course of events. As of today, Milan Skriniar has refused Inter’s offer to extend with the club, putting the Milanese club in a very uncomfortable position going into the second half of the season. In addition, Denzel Dumfries is tipped for an exit to the Premier League as the Dutchman is listed as the primary asset to sacrifice in order to reach financial targets that were implemented since last summer. Furthermore,  the financial situation of Suning could force the club to offload more core players ahead of next season, possibly making it extremely difficult for the club to maintain its competitive status.

With a series of whirlwind events occurring within Inter, the Footitalia team had FcInternews journalist Raffaele Caru breakdown the current circumstances occuring within the Benemata, providing a great deal of insight of what is to be expected within the second half of the season, as well as the upcoming summer transfer window within an exclusive interview.

Is there any chance that Inter could make a better offer to Skriniar and if not, when will he leave the club after reaching an agreement with PSG according to Footmercato?

Unfortunately, Skriniar’s situation seems to have already been outlined unless there are sensational raises from Inter. But in this case, everything depends on the will of the player who now seems to have embraced the cause of Paris Saint-Germain, therefore 99.99% Milan Skriniar will be a PSG player. It’s hard to think that a Paris Saint-Germain player could leave Inter as early as January, so his transfer should be considered in June. Inter offered the maximum from a corporate point of view as they offered an important contract worth around 7 million euro per year including both fixed part and bonuses, but here is a player who is more of a sporting choice, therefore as well as economic obviously because the offer of Paris Saint-Germain is superior in terms of money compared to that of Inter and then of course there is also the ambition of the players because going to play with Messi, Neymar, and Mbappe is certainly more stimulating and even more successful as a project publicly always on the field to talk about However, Skriniar is a serious professional so there are no doubts about him on his availability on his employment for the rest of the season as an Inter player . We need to see if he will expose himself in these months, if he will tell the fans his choice and how will this choice be welcomed by the fans, and with what they have always loved today interesti spoke in proximity, particularly the message within the northern curve just said that there will be no reaction against discrimination until he first of all says what his choice was so this is the general picture of Skriniar.”

Several names have emerged as a possible replacement for Milan Skriniar such as Giorgio Scalvini and Chris Smalling, there are other names that are also an option and which player seems the most realistic alternative?

“You said it very well because Scalvini is a name that Inter have liked for some time even if he is more centre-left, even yesterday against Juventus he put in a good performance even if Atalanta conceded three goals he was very much among the best of the Atalanta on the center-left. Bastoni already governs the left centre-back role has sticks but must still being monitored as an ideal signing is the situation of Scalvini. Smalling certainly represents another important man as his contact is expiring with Roma so he could reach zero as then happened with Mkhitaryan last summer, and in any case a very reliable name. However, another name could be that of Tiago Djalo from Lille, another promising youngster And then in any case, Inter’s defence must be monitored due to various situations because in addition to the expiring contract of Milan Skriniar, De Vrij is also expiring and Inter have to propose a renewal as they are keen that he remains at the club. Furthermore, we have to understand what they will do with Acerbi who has proven to be one of the best this year as he’s on loan from Lazio with the right of redemption fixed at four million and the club will retain him if they can get find some way of obtaining a discount. Therefore, several different situations in defence must be defined, but surely the names you said plus that of Djalo only right now are the main targets.  But then you know how the market evolves continuously so you new names can emerge. Anyway these three names are definitely in the notebook for Inter.”

It was reported not long ago that Denzel Dumfries’ agent was in England as many clubs are interested in the Dutchman and willing to negotiate with Inter after their €60m price tag, which clubs look like favourites to sign him and when we can expect a departure?

“Then it is certainly that of Dumfries and the name around which the Inter market could revolve more in the summer because in my opinion, among the players that Inter are willing to sacrifice Dumfries is the number one and wrinkles have certainly started. Say Inter bought him for about 20 million from what we have seen today the value has tripled on the market. So the range is from 35-60 million euros and Chelsea certainly have him listed and is a club that is spending a lot. It is difficult that even Dumfries will leave Inter in the winter market because it is now a week away until the end of the transfer market, but yet again the Chelsea board often fired a lot of money in this transfer window as we have seen all the shots they haves made. Dumfries was a huge name on the list for a while because Reece James was injured and was one of Chelsea’s top right-back’s and the squad has no great substitutes within that position. Surely we need to see him in the Premier League because I’m giving a fidget to Manchester United too, he likes really liked thee too and at Tottenham, so it’s a situation to monitor. But surely Dumfries  remains one of the names outgoing also because then Darmian with his performances against both Napoli and against Milan it is difficult for Inzaghi to give up Darmian even if for example tonight against Empoli so we could expect him to remain as a starter for some time.”

What can be expected from Inter in terms of having to sell their star players in view of next season given the financial situation of Suning?

“So unfortunately here we have to say something clear to the fans to all those who follow Inter, no Inter player is considered non-transferable by the club so if important offers for Barella, Bstoni, Lautaro, and Brozovic arrive, they will all be evaluated. Inter is not to date a club that then somehow refuses important offers.  Paris Saint-Germain wanted to acquire Skriniar last summer, Inter set a price for him. Although they don’t sell off all heir players, they ensure to consider all the offers because Inter unfortunately can’t make certain arguments compared to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, so surely important offers could arrive for sticks that have already been sought.  However, the club will not sell them out before a proper evaluation of all the offers and an attempt to take advantage of their offers in order for the economic offers to be deemed as “fair”. The situation next summer heavily depends on the other clubs because Inter will obviously try to understand what to do with Hakan Calhanoglu will try to understand what to do with others who are similar situations. So the club have to sit down to try to avoid what happened with Skriniar, but it is important to understand if an offer comes for any name, any player to date could be considered outgoing as the club firmly believes they must evaluate must always be careful of any offer that arrives in Milan.”
