Everton takeover by Friedkin Group officially confirmed

Start

Everton Football Club has officially announced a change in ownership, with The Friedkin Group acquiring a majority stake in the Premier League side. This marks the end of Farhad Moshiri’s eight-year tenure as the club’s majority shareholder.

The Texas-based Friedkin Group, led by Dan and Ryan Friedkin, who also own Italian club AS Roma, had been in talks to purchase Everton for several months. The deal has now been finalized, bringing a new era to the Merseyside club.

In a statement released on Everton’s official website, the club confirmed the transfer of majority shares to the Friedkin family. This development comes after weeks of speculation and negotiations, during which other potential buyers, including businessman Vathce Manoukian, had also shown interest in acquiring the club.

The Friedkin Group’s acquisition of Everton adds to their growing portfolio in football, potentially setting the stage for a multi-club ownership model similar to those employed by entities like the City Football Group and 777 Partners.

While Moshiri’s tenure saw mixed results on the pitch, it also included significant progress on the club’s new stadium project, which is set to replace the iconic Goodison Park in the near future.

The takeover brings fresh optimism to Everton supporters, who will be hoping that the new ownership can elevate the club’s performance and standing in the Premier League. The Friedkin Group’s experience with AS Roma may prove valuable as they look to revitalize Everton’s fortunes both on and off the field.
