Empoli president Fabrizio Corsi says he will try to keep sporting director Pietro Accardi the club, but ‘he is ready for Napoli.’ The comments come after reports that Napoli will look to the Azzurri director as a replacement for Cristiano Giuntoli, who is being closely linked with a move to Juventus. Speaking with Radio Kiss Kiss Napoli, Corsi offered his congratulations to close friend Luciano Spalletti, outlining why a scudetto for the Neapolitans is more difficult, whilst also touching on the future of Accardi, who has been decisive in the management of Empoli:
“I have known Spalletti all my life, we started together in football. He is a coach of depth, I am biased and I think you are too, but this Scudetto is the right reward for his career. We have been waiting for this icing on the cake, it is right that De Laurentiis also won after so many years as president.
“Spalletti expresses the best footballin Europe, then there is Maurizio Sarri’s. Winning in Naples is more difficult than winning at Juventus since Napoli’s revenues are lower than Juventus. In Naples they invented unknown players, Juventus is starting over with youngsters now, even though they usually sign them ready-made.”
“Spalletti’s future? I don’t know, I only know that De Laurentiis will do everything possible to expose a program up to the standard of this year’s Napoli. Next year you can also try to win the Champions League, this year he would have deserved the final.”
“Giuntoli new director at Juventus? He is the architect of this Napoli like De Laurentiis and Spalletti. I’ve known him since he was at Carpi, I’ve always seen this passion of his to search for talent, I’m not surprised by his career. Accardi? I will try to keep him, I will do what I can.
