Dybala stays at Roma despite Saudi offer, faces uncertain role

Start

Paulo Dybala has decided to remain with Roma, turning down a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah. The offer, which promised around €20 million per season, was declined by Dybala, who is committed to staying in competitive European football. The Argentine forward is content in Rome and is eager to have a successful season, especially with the arrival of his friend Matias Soulé at the club.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that despite his decision to stay, Dybala’s position as an undisputed starter is now in question. Recently, he was benched during a preseason friendly against Everton, and Roma’s coach, Daniele De Rossi, has indicated that no player, including Dybala, is irreplaceable. This has led to speculation that Dybala might not start in the upcoming Serie A opener against Cagliari, especially if De Rossi opts for a 4-3-3 formation, where Soulé is preferred as the right winger.

Roma are happy to retain Dybala, despite his substantial salary, unless a significant offer from another European club arises. Dybala had previously expressed to De Rossi that he would consider a move if a compelling offer from a Champions League club came through. As the transfer window remains open, the situation is fluid, but for now, Dybala remains a key part of Roma’s plans.
