The recent performance of Douglas Luiz in Juventus’ draw against Cagliari has once again brought the club’s transfer strategy into question. The Brazilian midfielder, who came on as a substitute in the second half, conceded a penalty that cost Juventus the victory. This incident has sparked a broader discussion about the club’s market decisions.
Former Juventus player Massimo Mauro expressed his concerns, stating, “He’s a player who can no longer be on the bench, paid a lot of money, to whom they want to entrust Juventus’ midfield, but the championship is going on and he continues to sit on the bench.”
Ivan Zazzaroni, a prominent Italian sports journalist, pointed out that Luiz is not the only problem facing Juventus. He elaborated, “Douglas Luiz is one of the problems. You have only one striker, you’ve left Danilo out, Bremer is injured, Danilo could play. Isn’t the defense a problem? We want to say that Bremer is Juventus’ best defender, he’s missing and it’s a big problem. You got Douglas Luiz and McKennie is playing, whom you had left out, along with Locatelli. As of today, there have been some market issues, it’s evident.”
Sandro Sabatini added to the critique, saying, “Clearly, this isn’t him. We’re seeing a player who’s having everything go against him, he’s got Fantozzi’s cloud over him. The fact remains that he was paid with a 50 million valuation before June 30th, and I understand he hadn’t been seen in person, an exaggerated 50 million valuation.”
However, Riccardo Trevisani offered a more optimistic perspective: “He’s obviously doing poorly, but I can go back to Falcao, Platini, Tonali, how many bad first years have we seen? Did Zidane do well in his first year? He didn’t do very well.”
