Italy captain and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma expressed confidence and optimism as the national team prepares to face France in their UEFA Nations League opener. Speaking at a press conference at Parc des Princes, Donnarumma shared insights on the team’s mindset, the new era under coach Luciano Spalletti, and the challenges ahead.

Donnarumma emphasized the team’s fresh start and determination to learn from past mistakes. “We’ve begun a new journey, and we’re eager and motivated to start again,” he said. “We must look forward while keeping in mind the errors made in Germany. I see the team with the right motivations.”

The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper acknowledged the formidable challenge posed by France but remained upbeat about Italy’s prospects. “It will be stimulating to face them. It’s a difficult challenge against strong and unpredictable opponents, but knowing them a bit, I might be able to ‘steal’ something,” Donnarumma remarked.

Discussing the team’s composition, Donnarumma highlighted the mix of experienced players and young talent. “We have players who can make a difference,” he stated. “There are many players accustomed to big stages, having played in Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League finals. We need to help the young players and try to create an important group.”

Donnarumma also spoke positively about the new atmosphere under Spalletti’s leadership. “I see him very motivated. We talked before the gathering. He’s much calmer and more serene now,” the goalkeeper revealed. “We’re happy to continue with Spalletti, who is a coach that helps us grow and gives us a hand. He prepares matches very well, as demonstrated in previous years.”

Regarding his role as captain, Donnarumma expressed pride and a sense of responsibility. “Being the captain of the national team is a source of pride. All children aspire to play for Italy. I feel a very strong sense of responsibility, I like these kinds of challenges,” he said.

Looking ahead to the match against France, Donnarumma remained confident in Italy’s abilities. “They have very strong, quality players, as we do. They have a bit more experience, but it’s played 11 against 11. I don’t think there will be a favorite, it will be a difficult match,” he concluded.
