Done deal: David Neres to join Napoli

Start

Napoli are on the verge of completing a significant transfer, with Brazilian winger David Neres expected to join the club within the next 48 hours. The deal with Benfica is reportedly finalized, with Napoli agreeing to pay €28 million for the player’s transfer.

La Gazzetta dello Sport report that Neres is set to arrive in Italy between Sunday evening and Monday, coming directly from Lisbon. Upon arrival, he will undergo medical examinations at Villa Stuart before proceeding to Naples to sign his new contract with De Laurentiis’ club. The 27-year-old is expected to earn approximately €3 million net per year, nearly a million more than his current salary in Portugal.

This acquisition is a crucial piece of Antonio Conte’s transfer strategy, alongside targets Billy Gilmour and Romelu Lukaku. Neres’ attacking prowess on the wing is expected to provide the change of pace that could prove decisive in Conte’s system, especially once the Lukaku deal with Chelsea is finalized.

While Neres is likely to miss Napoli’s season opener against Verona, he is expected to make his debut in the second round of fixtures against Bologna. The Brazilian’s arrival will offer an important alternative to Politano on the right flank, complementing Kvaratskhelia and supporting the striker.

Neres, known for his dribbling skills and tactical awareness, has shown significant growth in recent seasons. His ability to read the game and change play unexpectedly from the attacking midfield position makes him a valuable asset. Last season with Benfica, despite an injury setback, he managed five goals and eight assists in 24 league appearances.
