Roma’s interim manager Claudio Ranieri delivered a passionate and introspective press conference ahead of Sunday’s Serie A match against Parma, addressing the team’s current challenges and future prospects.
Reflecting on the recent disappointing loss to Como, Ranieri was brutally honest about his emotions. “I don’t want to watch the second half of Como again; it shocked me and I can’t hide my disappointment,” he stated. Despite the setback, he emphasized the need for unwavering determination, urging his team to face Parma with the same fighting spirit that has characterized his tenure.
Ranieri praised Parma as a “lively team with good attackers who play vertically,” indicating the match will require tactical precision. He highlighted the importance of key players like Hummels and Paredes, describing them as “huge reference points” and essential leaders.
The experienced coach was particularly candid about player mentality, stating, “I look for the best from everyone, and it’s something you either have or you don’t have.” This philosophy extends to tactical decisions, such as positioning Ndicka on the left in a three-man defense to create numerical superiority.
Looking ahead to the January transfer window, Ranieri was pragmatic. “We will bring to Rome players who deserve to play in a club like Roma,” he explained. “It will not be easy. We will need guys who will also be the future of Roma.” His focus remains on rebuilding the team’s competitive spirit and long-term potential.
When questioned about his own future, Ranieri remained committed to the club’s objectives. “I try to do my best as the team’s head coach,” he said. “I will give my all for whatever the owners ask of me.”
