Inter Milan’s preparations for their crucial Champions League match against Manchester City have been disrupted by an injury concern for Federico Dimarco. The Italian left-back experienced muscular discomfort towards the end of Inter’s 1-1 draw with Monza, raising doubts about his availability for the upcoming European fixture.
Dimarco, who has been a key player for Simone Inzaghi’s side, pushed through the pain to complete the match against Monza. However, subsequent medical assessments have revealed that the 26-year-old is suffering from muscle fatigue in the flexors of his right thigh.
Tuttosport report that the Inter medical staff is treating the situation with caution to prevent a potentially longer-term absence. While Dimarco has two days to attempt a recovery, the prevailing sentiment is that Inzaghi may opt not to risk the player, fearing a more severe setback.
An Inter source close to the situation stated, “It’s very difficult to see Dimarco being used against City, even though the coach will wait until Tuesday to make further evaluations on the player and better understand his condition.”
The injury concern extends beyond the Manchester City match, with Dimarco potentially missing the upcoming Milan derby scheduled for Sunday evening at San Siro. The final decision on his participation will be made after the team’s last training session at Appiano Gentile, just before their departure for England.
In the event that Dimarco is unable to play, Inzaghi is likely to turn to Carlos Augusto as a replacement. The Brazilian was utilized as a left-sided center-back in the match against Monza to give Alessandro Bastoni a rest, but he could be shifted to the wing-back position for the City clash.
Inzaghi commented on the situation, saying, “We’re monitoring Federico’s condition closely. While we hope for his recovery, we must also be prepared with alternative solutions. Carlos Augusto has shown his versatility and could be a valuable option if needed.”
