Di Canio’s critique of De Rossi: “Genuine but Immature”

Start

Paolo Di Canio, former striker for Juventus, Napoli, Milan, and notably Lazio, now a TV commentator for Sky Sport, has shared his thoughts on Roma’s 1-1 draw against Genoa. In his analysis, Di Canio didn’t hold back in his criticism of his old friend-turned-rival, Daniele De Rossi, describing him as somewhat “immature” in some of his decisions.

Addressing the Dybala situation, Di Canio stated, “Dybala’s stay at Roma has clearly disrupted plans. The primary issue is Soulé’s development, which is now more challenging to manage. The former Juventus player is a young footballer in whom the club has invested heavily.”

Di Canio believes De Rossi needs to improve, particularly in managing the final minutes of games. “The goal Roma conceded at the last minute should never happen. In this aspect, I think De Rossi needs to grow,” he remarked.

The commentator went on to describe De Rossi as “genuine but immature,” explaining, “It’s evident that he’s genuine and struggles to detach himself from the image of being the idol of Roma fans. He’s trying to manage this through his communication, but today he became anxious, arguing about the foul claimed on Pellegrini. That’s a sign of immaturity that he needs to improve upon, in my opinion.”

Di Canio also pointed out issues with some of the players’ attitudes: “There’s also the behavior of certain players that needs to change. As soon as Genoa applied more pressure, there was apprehension from experienced players. I expect more aggression and virility from some Roma players because that’s what the environment demands.”

Lastly, Di Canio criticized De Rossi’s defense of certain players: “At times, some players whom the coach defended in the press conference seemed too relaxed. It’s precisely from them that we expect something more.”
