Former Lazio striker Paolo Di Canio has voiced strong criticism of Roma’s current management under the Friedkin ownership. Speaking on Sky Calcio Club, Di Canio expressed concerns about the lack of communication and proper structure within the club, particularly in light of recent departures including manager Daniele De Rossi and executive Lina Souloukou.
Di Canio emphasized the need for better intermediaries between the team, coaching staff, and the absent owners: “There’s a lack of people who can act as a link between the team, Juric, the technical staff, and the owners who are never there. You need to talk and interact with them because things are either going well or not. They shouldn’t just arrive to send people away.”
The former player also highlighted what he sees as a fundamental misunderstanding of football club management by the American owners: “What impresses me is that they’re spending a lot of money. Americans tend to think they can manage football clubs like normal businesses, without supporters at their doorstep, but it’s a completely different world.”
Di Canio pointed out the Friedkins’ reliance on grand gestures without addressing day-to-day operations: “They thought they had solved everything by bringing in Mourinho once, and things heated up. Then you win a cup and become a hero, then you go and get Lukaku with a plane. These gestures are great, but then there’s the daily routine, and that’s where you need executives.”
