Udinese forward Gerard Deulofeu opened up about his ongoing battle with injury, expressing his acceptance of the possibility that he may never return to the pitch. It’s been over a year since the Spaniard last stepped onto the field on January 22, 2023, playing for just 13 minutes in Udinese’s win over Sampdoria at Marassi. However, his joy was short-lived as it marked the beginning of a challenging journey. A knee injury significantly sidelined the Spanish player, forcing him to remain on the sidelines. Deulofeu shared insights into his injury ordeal during a conversation on the Twitch channel Jijantes:
In his own words, he expressed, “For several months now, I’ve known that I may not play again. I haven’t been able to do what I love for a long time: it’s been over a year since I last played. I can’t say much, but I’ve been going through a real ordeal.”
Deulofeu continued to reveal the depth of his struggle, stating, “You can’t imagine what I’m going through. I’m trying to recover in every possible way, but I’ve accepted the idea that I may not recover anymore.”
During his last active season on the field in the 2020/2021 campaign, the Spanish player managed to notch two goals and six assists in 16 matches. Following his stint at AC Milan, Deulofeu returned to Italy in 2020, but his time at Udinese has been marred by injuries, particularly to his knee.
