Denzel Dumfries resumes contract talks with Inter

Start

Dutch right-back Denzel Dumfries is reportedly set to resume contract negotiations with Inter Milan, signaling a potential renewal of his stay at the club. This development comes after a period of tension during the winter months when talks had stalled.

La Gazzetta dello Sport outline how, Dumfries, who joined Inter from PSV Eindhoven in 2021, has his current contract set to expire in 2025. The previous round of negotiations hit a roadblock when Dumfries’ representatives sought a significant pay increase to €5.5 million per season, more than double his current €2.5 million annual salary.

Inter, however, has maintained their stance, offering a package worth around €4 million plus bonuses, similar to the deal that secured Federico Dimarco’s contract extension. While the club’s position remains unchanged, it appears that Dumfries may now be more inclined to accept these terms.

The timing of these renewed talks is significant, as they are expected to take place after the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 Round of 16 match against Romania. This crucial game, which could see the Dutch team advance to the quarter-finals, may influence the negotiations.

Despite earlier reports of potential Premier League interest, concrete offers have not materialized, potentially strengthening Inter’s position in the talks. The club views Dumfries as an important asset and is keen to secure his future at the San Siro.

As the situation unfolds, both parties seem optimistic about reaching an agreement. The coming days could prove decisive in determining whether Dumfries will extend his stay with the Nerazzurri beyond 2025.
