Inter Milan’s right-back Denzel Dumfries recently spoke to Ziggo Sport in the Netherlands, discussing his contract renewal with the Nerazzurri and his experiences in Italy. The Dutch international, who recently extended his stay with the club, provided insights into the negotiation process and his life in Milan.
When asked about his progress with the Italian language, Dumfries admitted, “I don’t speak it as well as I’d like yet. I try to do it as much as possible, but not every day.”
Regarding his contract renewal, Dumfries revealed the complexities involved: “It took a long time. Of course, we had to wait for the new ownership to take over. We negotiated for a long time, but in the end, I’m proud and happy to have signed here. I think it wasn’t easy for them or for me. This made things a bit difficult, it took a bit longer than usual. We can beat around the bush, but in the end, it’s also a matter of money.”
The 28-year-old expressed his contentment with his current situation: “I’m 28 years old, and this is an important moment for me. The club has always been good to me. In the end, we’re both very happy. I’m enjoying myself very much, my intention is to stay until 2028.”
Dumfries also commented on the shocking incident involving Edoardo Bove: “It was a huge shock. We were in a moment where everyone was talking about whether the ball had gone out of bounds or not on my cross because we had scored a goal, and suddenly I saw him fall to the ground. At that moment, I understood the situation well, and everyone responded quickly.”
When asked about his relationship with fellow Dutchman Tijjani Reijnders, Dumfries shared, “It’s good. My youngest son and his oldest son are the same age, so they sometimes play together. But we don’t see each other often because we obviously play in the same stadium, so our schedules are really incompatible. But he knows we’re always there.”
Finally, Dumfries expressed his love for his adopted city: “Milan is a wonderful place to live.”
