Dele Alli set for Boxing Day training with Como

Start

Former England international Dele Alli is poised to take a significant step in his bid to revive his football career. The midfielder, who has been without a club since July 2024, is set to begin training with Italian side Como on December 26th, Boxing Day.

This development comes after Alli was spotted in the stands during Como’s recent match against Roma. Como’s manager, Cesc Fabregas, confirmed the possibility of Alli training with the team, stating, “I met him on Saturday, and after Christmas, he might start training with us to regain some fitness. Nothing more than that.”

Despite Fabregas’s cautious words, there’s growing speculation that Como is seriously considering adding Alli to their squad. The 28-year-old has been inactive since February 2023, following a brief and underwhelming spell with Turkish club Besiktas.

Once hailed as one of England’s brightest prospects, Alli’s career has taken a dramatic downturn in recent years. His best days were at Tottenham Hotspur, where he made 269 appearances and scored 67 goals. A move to Everton in January 2022 failed to reignite his career, resulting in just 15 appearances over six months.

Alli’s struggles haven’t been limited to the pitch. In a candid interview with Gary Neville, he revealed his battles with mental health issues, stemming from childhood trauma. This upcoming training opportunity with Como represents more than just a chance to regain physical fitness; it’s potentially Alli’s last shot at salvaging his once-promising career.
