Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero says he is monitoring the situation in Turin and refused to rule out the possibility of returning to the club in some capacity. The former Bianconeri captain was live on BeIn sport in his role as a pundit when news broke of the resignation of the entire board of directors, including Andrea Agnelli and Pavel Nedved.
Speaking live, Del Piero offered his assessment of the situation and was asked why the resignations had taken place:
“It’s quite a long story…this day, and especially tomorrow, is a special day because Juve are on the market and tomorrow is a big meeting with all the investors. You need to approve what happened before and it appears there are some problems from before. I can’t go very deep because i don’t know because there’s an ongoing police investigation.
Is it related to Ronaldo’s transfer to Juventus? It happened not only because of him but for different things that happened during Covid, and the fact that it appears some things were moved from one term sheet to another. But this something that is in the newspapers. There are allegations and these resignations, so if you sum the two together, some of these allegations might be true.
It’s a big decision that’s shocked everyone, no one thought it would happen. Would Agnelli sell the club? No, he’s just resigned as president. The ownership stays the same, but they need to figure out what happens next.
What’s the outcome or punishment? No, this is not related to the team or in terms of relegation, it’s going to affect the people. It’s an allegation regarding the people. This is going to be affecting the other board members.”
Fellow pundit Nigel De Jong posed the question: “Is this a possibility for Alessandro Del Piero to come back to the Juventus board?
“You’re asking the question to someone like me who spent 20 years with the team,” Del Piero replied, “I got relegated with the team, I decided to stay, obviously the relationship between me and the team and the owners and the fans is quite deep, very deep to be honest. Because we’ve been through everything, from the top to the bottom and back to the top again.
Every news that’s regarding Juventus is very emotional for me… there’s concern and emotional involvement, I’m standing by, I’m seeing what’s going to happen. I was with the team this summer in Los Angeles, I’m friends with Pavel, with everyone. It’s sad for me to see this situation.”
