Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero believes the Juve youngsters gave a glimpse of hope for the future, but the teams efforts overall were not enough for the Champions League. The Bianconeri were 4-1 down in the first half before a series of substitutions inspire a fight-back to 4-3, largely due to the introduction of the teams youngsters.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia after the game, Del Piero offered his assessment of the match:
I think these last 20 minutes gave a hint of hope for the future because we saw goals, a desire to fight, many good things. But the overall feeling of the match is bad because the first half was dominated by Benfica who then dominated most of the second.
While it’s true that Juve had the chance to make it 4-4, they also conceded chances that could have made it 5-4 a couple of times.
It did not go well. It’s hard to explain a game largely dominated by Benfica. Juve were never dead until the end, but today, it was not enough. Half an hour at this level is not enough.”
