Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis suggests that Victor Osimhen is close to signing a new contract with the club. The Nigeria striker has reportedly been in talks with the Partenopei since the summer over a new deal, and speaking at the awarding of the ‘Campania Felix’ prize, De Laurentiis seemed to hint that the news would be made official soon:
“For Osimhen we are at the signing stage that was pending since the summer.”
“The stadium? I hear people say ‘He presented a project but it was rejected’. But it’s not true: I presented a project that was ‘not studied’. They put 41500 spectators there, seeing that we have an average of 32000 a year, and the Juventus Stadium is 40000 scarce, 39900 I think, it was said by someone who wanted to be ‘Masaniello’ that the stadium must be a popular affair, and that it should be made for 55-60 thousand. But that’s all very well, when they say that the stadium must be available to the people, then I say that public shareholding should be done. Because when I have to pull out €70 million for Osimhen, who will pull it out?”.
“A 90-year concession? I want to buy the stadium, with the commitment to invest those millions needed to make Sky boxes, to bring the public next to the players like in real stadiums, all that’.
“Kvaratskhelia renewal? What does that matter, he still has four years left… You always cry over a dead man who is not there.”
