De Laurentiis: ‘If they sell me the Stadio Maradona, I promise to make it the most beautiful stadium in Italy’

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis promised to make the Stadio Maradona the most beautiful stadium in Italy, if given the opportunity. The Partenopei owner spoke to Prime ahead of the Champions League clash with Real Madrid and revealed his plans for the future of the club, and potential renovations for the stadium:

“I am very happy, Napoli has never fallen, but it has had a few stumbles as happens in life. From here to say that it is no longer the Napoli that won the Scudetto isn’t true. I am always of the opinion that accounts are made at the end. So let’s see the cups and the championship, let’s see how the great managers of football, who have the great responsibility, if they manage instead to make it more modern and effective and less long-winded for the very young who can no longer follow an outdated and old football”.

“Stadiums are now number one, because they must be places that can be used 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Values are values and they don’t change, that must be made clear to the parental structure.”

“If Juventus fan Gaetano Manfredi (mayor of Naples, ed) manages to get out of the bond that binds him to the city council and gives me the stadium, I promise that within a year I will make it the most beautiful stadium in Italy. If, on the other hand, the city councilors hate Napoli, we can make a stadium in Caserta or Pompeii. Naples and Campania are one. The president of the region is on my side and he was the only one to put the stadium in place.”

“We loved Napoli in the days of Sarri and Spalletti but also with Ancelotti and Mazzarri, who was the first to make us jump for joy in Europe. Let’s hope that the politicians don’t take away our growth decree, otherwise all this Europeanisation will be over.”
