Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis admitted that he is a big fan of Gian Piero Gasperini: “I always watch Atalanta’s games with great interest.” The Partenopei have been linked with La Dea’s head coach on a number of occasions this season as they look to plan for the summer.
Quoted by TMW, De Laurentiis openly discussed Gasperini, saying:
“I always watch Atalanta’s games with great interest because they have an excellent coach, great players, and play very attractive football,” he declared.
Gasperini was on the verge of managing Napoli years ago, but De Laurentiis ultimately chose Walter Mazzarri. However, Gasperini’s name has resurfaced recently, and for weeks now, he has been a strong option for the Napoli coaching role, arguably the most appealing one.
De Laurentiis seeks a football mastermind to lead alongside Giovanni Manna in rebuilding Napoli, set for a summer overhaul. Gasperini is aiming to conclude his eight-year tenure at Bergamo with a trophy before potentially seeking release from his final contract year with the Percassi family.
The response from Atalanta remains uncertain, as there has been no dialogue yet, given the timing. However, Gasperini stands as a robust prospect for De Laurentiis, with a proposed three-year contract to commence after Giovanni Manna’s initial five-year term.
