Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis believes it was always going to be difficult for the club to defend their 2022-23 Serie A title. At the premiere of “Sarò con te,” the film celebrating Napoli’s successes during the 2022-2023 season, De Laurentiis responded to questions from news site CalcioNapoli24 regarding the current season and the sense of resurgence. With regards to the reception of the film by the audience, De Laurentiis stated:
“It seems to me that the audience is on the side of the film and relives with pleasure these moments that remain impressed in the heart, mind, and fervor of always wanting to achieve something that is not so easy to obtain in this city. So it is clear that there is a sense of resurgence, of total satisfaction.”
Regarding the current season, which has been significantly less gratifying in terms of results: “Let’s leave the current season alone for now. Anyone who believes in winning two consecutive titles is deluded.”
Eliminated from the Champions League and the Coppa Italia in the round of 16, Napoli currently sit in 9th place in the standings. With a 9-point gap from the Europa League zone and only 4 games remaining, the possibility of playing in a European cup next season is becoming increasingly remote.
