Cataldi: “They were better than us, but we put in our mistakes”

Start

After suffering an agonizing 2-0 defeat to Atalanta at the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio midfielder Danilo Cataldi provided his insight on the worrisome defeat.

Gasperini managed to get the best of Sarri as the La Dea boss had his side progressing the ball forward swiftly with a high intensity straight from the start, allowing them to break through the Biancocelesti defensive shape without having to break much of a sweat.

Davide Zappacosta’s stunning screamer from outside and the box and promising starlet Rasmus Hojlund goal from point-blank range after receiving a square pass from Ademola Lookman was enough for Atalanta to sink a dagger in the heart of the capital club.

As a result, the heavy defeat has left Lazio in disarray, struggling to find consistency as now find themselves in sixth place with 39 points.

While speaking to media, via TMW, Cataldi gave his perspective of his side’s performance and emphasized on the missed opportunities within the final third that would have most likely have altered the dynamics of the match:

“We had to be brighter and move the ball better, we know how they play. They were better than us, but we put in our mistakes. Conference League? Winning helps to win. Playing an important match on Thursday is a must, especially given the moment we are experiencing. When we concede goals we struggle to play, we lose that pinch of serenity and we are unable to play the way we would like to. We have always lacked the ability to reset negative episodes and restart. Ciro? Is he a striker and when he’s not able to record it’s complicated for him? But he’s our captain and we’re with him, we know what he can give us. Let’s hope he unlocks soon.”
