Daniel Maldini makes Italy debut under father’s watchful eye

Start

Daniel Maldini has become the third generation of his family to don the Italian national team jersey, following in the footsteps of his grandfather Cesare and father Paolo. The young Maldini made his debut for Italy in their Nations League match against Israel in Udine, marking a significant moment in the storied Maldini dynasty.

The match held special significance as Paolo Maldini, along with Daniel’s mother and brother, was present in the stands to witness this momentous occasion. Coincidentally, Udine was also the venue where Paolo himself made his debut for AC Milan nearly 40 years ago.

On January 20, 1985, Paolo Maldini stepped onto the pitch in Udine for his first appearance with AC Milan. Now, almost four decades later, his son Daniel has begun his international career on the same ground. Coach Luciano Spalletti introduced Daniel as a substitute in the 74th minute, giving him enough time to contribute to the build-up of Italy’s final goal in their 4-1 victory over Israel.

Although Daniel’s appearance was brief, it represents the beginning of the third generation of Maldinis to represent Italy at the international level. This continuation of the family legacy in Italian football adds another chapter to one of the sport’s most renowned dynasties.
