Corriere dello Sport: ‘Friedkin ready to fire Mourinho’

Start

Il Corriere dello Sport claim that Roma owner Dan Friedkin is ready to fire coach Jose Mourinho, if he loses to Cagliari this weekend. It’s a bizarre headline, given the Giallorossi look to have turned a corner in recent weeks following a disappointing start to the season.

Roma were without a win in their opening three fixtures but have gone on to win four of their last six matches in all competitions, however the league loss to Genoa exposed some weaknesses in Mourinho’s game plan. The Portuguese tactician called it one of the worst defeats of his career, but also pointed to the recent European finals he has led Roma to, both of which were thanks to his guidance.

Il Corriere claim that Mourinho’s fate is now ‘tied to one game’, namely the match against Cagliari on Sunday evening, and should he lose the club have already looked to find a replacement.

The newspaper suggests that recently fired German national coach Hans-Dieter Flick is the leading candidate to succeed the Special One, if results do not improve.
