“Confidence is key”: Vieira reflects on Genoa’s 2-2 draw with Cagliari

Start

Patrick Vieira’s debut as Genoa’s head coach ended in a 2-2 draw against Cagliari in a home fixture. The former Arsenal midfielder shared his thoughts on the match in a post-game interview with DAZN.

Vieira began by expressing his satisfaction with the team’s performance: “I’m very satisfied. I believe the players had an interesting game. They were focused and applied what we worked on during the week. I feel sorry for them because they deserved to win.”

The new Genoa coach emphasized the importance of instilling confidence in his players: “The crucial thing was to give confidence to the players: we have the quality. After that, it’s important to provide a clear technical project. We conceded two goals and created dangerous situations: there’s still work to do to become even stronger as a team.”

Commenting on Fabio Miretti’s performance, Vieira said: “Miretti has the quality to be dangerous in the final 30/40 meters. Today we used him on the left, but he played in midfield. His technique and quality are very interesting. We need to continue working on the offensive phase.”

When asked about Mario Balotelli, Vieira revealed: “He was disappointed not to have come on earlier. When a player gets angry because he didn’t play, for me it’s positive. These are the things I want to see.”
