AC Milan’s head coach Sergio Conceiçao addressed the media in a press conference ahead of the Champions League clash against Girona, providing insights into the team’s preparation and mindset.

Conceiçao emphasized the significance of the Champions League, stating, “Being in the world’s best club competition is always a huge motivation. Great teams like Milan must work every year to be present.” He expressed pride in his previous seven-year stint with Porto and his ambition to advance Milan’s position in this competition, in line with the club’s illustrious history.

The coach highlighted the team’s mental preparation, noting that despite limited time, the players were focused and concentrated. He stressed the importance of the right attitude, saying, “The jerseys don’t play, they are worn by players who must express what we want at all levels and in all competitions, not just in the Champions League.”

Addressing the need for consistency throughout matches, Conceiçao acknowledged that the team is working on maintaining performance levels for the full 90 minutes. He views each match as a fresh opportunity for improvement, regardless of the previous result.

Conceiçao also touched upon the current squad situation, revealing that the team has only 12-13 first-team players available, along with three goalkeepers and three young players. He called for unity and support from the fans, emphasizing their crucial role: “Without the soul of the passionate fans, the club doesn’t exist.”

Regarding specific players, Conceiçao mentioned that Christian Pulisic would be with the squad but might not be risked to avoid a long-term injury. He also discussed the availability of Pavlovic and the possibility of using a midfielder in a central defensive position due to shortages.

The coach took responsibility for the team’s performance, stating, “The problem is the coach’s. My players try to do what I ask of them, the responsibility is mine and I have to do more.”

Finally, Conceiçao shared his ambition for the Champions League campaign: “I have this dream of going as far as possible in this tournament, I hope already this year with Milan because we start 0-0, to win. We always try to do our best.”
