Como’s president, Mirwan Suwarso, has made headlines with his recent revelations about the club’s ambitious transfer targets. In an interview with Sky Sport, Suwarso confirmed that the Italian club had indeed attempted to sign high-profile players Theo Hernandez and Marcus Rashford during the last transfer window.
“Yes, we tried,” Suwarso admitted, “but we are aware that we are a small club, so some people don’t take us seriously yet. Certain big names, when they hear about Como, say, ‘No, I want to play in the Champions League.’ That makes sense—we know very well what we can and cannot do. But we dream big.”
The Indonesian president’s candid remarks shed light on Como’s aspirations to elevate their status in Italian football. Despite acknowledging the challenges faced by a smaller club, Suwarso emphasized their commitment to growth and improvement.
“During the last winter transfer window, we tried to do our best to provide our coach, Cesc Fabregas, with the players he needed for his style of play. Many of the names mentioned were real. We were close to many players, some of whom never became public,” Suwarso explained.
The president also addressed the situation of Nico Paz, a promising young talent currently with the club. “Nico Paz is a great player, very ambitious. If we can stay at the level of his ambition, we hope to keep him. But we have to be realistic: if he keeps improving, a player like him deserves to play on the biggest stages in the world.”
Suwarso’s pragmatic approach extends to the club’s overall strategy. He stressed the importance of managing expectations and adapting to changes, drawing an interesting parallel to his personal life: “We all want Nico Paz to stay here—forever, if possible. The same goes for Cesc Fabregas. Ambition must be strong, but things change—that’s life. We have to be good at managing the challenges that will come our way. I’ve been married three times—if everything had gone perfectly, I would have done it only once.”
