Como Secure Major Coup from France: Caqueret Deal Done with Lyon

Start

Cesc Fabregas’ Como have pulled off an unexpected transfer coup. According to L’Equipe, the Lombardy club is on the verge of securing Lyon midfielder Maxence Caqueret on a permanent deal. This development comes after earlier rumours linked Como with Caqueret’s more experienced teammate Nemanja Matic.

Como will pay Lyon between €15-17 million for Caqueret, with a potential sell-on clause included in the deal. Crystal Palace had previously shown interest in the player, but their pursuit did not materialize into a concrete offer.

Caqueret is expected to arrive in Italy in the coming days for his medical examination, once Como and Lyon finalize the details of the transfer.

This marks Como’s fourth signing of the January transfer window, following the acquisitions of goalkeeper Jean Butez from Antwerp, young winger Assane Diao from Real Betis, and left-back Ivan Fresneda from Sporting Lisbon.

The 24-year-old Caqueret, a product of Lyon’s renowned youth academy, has made 9 appearances in Ligue 1 this season, with his last start dating back to October 20. He has also featured in one Coupe de France match and four Europa League games. Since his promotion to Lyon’s first team in December 2019, Caqueret has amassed an impressive 184 appearances, scoring 7 goals.
