Como promoted to Serie A after 21 year wait

Start

Despite drawing 1-1 with Cosenza, Cesc Fabregas’ Como have been promoted to Serie A after a 21-year wait. With Venezia losing 2-1 to Spezia, I Lariani were able to clinch the second automatic promotion spot.

With 72 points in thirty-seven games, it’s been an almost perfect journey, leading to a somewhat unexpected promotion at the beginning of the year. Como started the season with Moreno Longo as coach, but after twelve matches, the club decided to dismiss him and bet on Cesc Fabregas, former midfielder and current shareholder of the club. The transition from the youth team to the first team was swift.

However, Fabregas’s stint as head coach lasted only five games as didn’t yet have the required coaching license, so after the exemption expired, the club hired Osian Roberts until the end of the season.

Since his arrival, Como, aided by an excellent winter transfer window, notably the acquisition of Strefezza, lost only three times and proved to be the most in-form team in the league during the second half of the season, after Parma.
