CM: Juventus Consider Tonali Swap Deal as Douglas Luiz Attracts Newcastle Interest

Start

Juventus are reportedly exploring an intriguing transfer possibility involving Douglas Luiz and Sandro Tonali. The Italian giants are considering a potential swap deal with Newcastle United, which could see Luiz move to the Premier League club while bringing Tonali back to Serie A.

Calciomercato report how Douglas Luiz, who has struggled to adapt to Serie A since his summer move from Aston Villa, has attracted interest from several Premier League clubs. While Manchester City has been heavily linked with the Brazilian midfielder, Newcastle United has also emerged as a potential suitor.

Luiz’s difficulties in Italy have been evident, with the player making only 16 appearances and failing to score in his short stint with Juventus. His previous success in the Premier League, where he scored 20 goals in 175 appearances for Aston Villa, has made him an attractive prospect for English clubs.

On the other hand, Sandro Tonali, who joined Newcastle from AC Milan, has been a key player for the Italian national team under Luciano Spalletti. However, he is not considered indispensable by Newcastle manager Eddie Howe.

The proposed swap deal could benefit both clubs. Newcastle would acquire a player with proven Premier League experience, while Juventus would secure a midfielder well-suited to Thiago Motta’s system and help with their squad registration requirements.

Both players have similar contract situations, with Luiz’s deal running until 2029 and Tonali’s until 2028. This alignment could facilitate a straightforward exchange between the two clubs.
