Calciomercato report how Inter Milan’s recent transfer market activities have raised eyebrows among football analysts and fans alike. Despite spending approximately €150 million on 17 players over the last four transfer windows, only three of these signings have established themselves as regular starters for the team.
The Nerazzurri’s recruitment strategy has come under scrutiny following their recent inconsistent performances, most notably the heavy defeat against Fiorentina. While Inter remain a strong contender in Serie A, the Coppa Italia, and the Champions League, there’s a growing concern about the depth and quality of their squad beyond the first-choice lineup.
Yann Sommer, Benjamin Pavard, and Marcus Thuram stand out as the successful acquisitions, having quickly become integral parts of Simone Inzaghi’s team. Sommer has been a reliable presence in goal, Pavard has strengthened the defense despite some injury setbacks, and Thuram has formed a formidable partnership with Lautaro Martinez in attack.
However, the list of underwhelming signings is considerably longer. Davide Frattesi, a €35 million investment from Sassuolo, has struggled to break into the starting eleven consistently. The attacking reinforcements of Marko Arnautovic, Alexis Sanchez, and Mehdi Taremi have failed to provide adequate support or competition for the preferred front two.
In midfield and defence, players like Kristjan Asllani, Davy Klaassen, and Piotr Zielinski have yet to make significant impacts. The full-back positions have seen a revolving door of players, with only Carlos Augusto managing to carve out a meaningful role for himself.
The club’s recruitment team, led by CEO Beppe Marotta and Sporting Director Piero Ausilio, now faces questions about their transfer strategy. While Inter has achieved success on the pitch, including winning the Scudetto last season and reaching the Champions League final the year before, the lack of depth has become apparent in moments of difficulty.
