Chris Smalling says he hopes to remain at Roma for another season, despite being linked with both Juventus and Inter. The English centre-back is into the last five months of his existing deal with the Giallorossi and has yet to agree terms on a new deal with the club, attracting the attention of the Bianconeri and Nerazzurri who were both hoping to sign him as a free-agent in June.
Speaking after Roma’s 2-0 win over RB Salzburg in the Europa League, Smalling appeared to indicate his future still lies in Roma and was quoted by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano as saying:
“I’m very confident, I’ve an option to extend the contract for one more season with AS Roma. I hope to stay and continue here even beyond next season”.
Smalling has been with Roma since 2020, making 128 appearances and scoring 10 goals in three seasons with the Giallorossi.
