Juventus winger Federico Chiesa says the Azzurri ‘must’ qualify for Euro 2024 ahead of their cruch qualifying matches against North Macedonia and Ukraine. Italy have to beat both teams to guarantee a place in next summers competition, and speaking with Sky Sport Italia, Chiesa explained the responsibility he and his teammates face in the coming days:
“When you’re in the national team you take a huge responsibility with you, we play a fundamental race for the qualification. I’m really happy to be here, unfortunately I didn’t participate in the previous matches, but I’m really happy to be able to help the team tomorrow.”
“There are many new players, but also many players who have won the European Championship. We are a right mix. We have to reach the qualification, otherwise we are here talking about nothing… We have to qualify, we are Italy. There is the possibility of this failure as there was the one that culminated with the night of Palermo. But we take the field aware that we want to achieve the goal.”
“Spalletti? For a winger the instructions are always those, especially in Europe, they serve for one-on-ones, for numerical superiority. It changes something in midfield, but at the level of the winger and at the top level, the movements are those. The coach asks a lot, let’s hope tomorrow to show him on the field.”
“I feel good. Unfortunately, at the last training camp I brought with me this little injury that did not allow me to train for 10-12 days, but now I am back in shape. Today we can close many circles, but it depends on us, no one will give us anything.”
