More wiretaps have emerged from the investigation into Juventus’ dealings, with director Federico Cherubini saying some of Fabio Paratici’s deals made him ‘nauseous.’ The Bianconeri are under investigation by the Turin public prosecutor office for inflated transfer deals as well as paying player salaries under the table in order to keep them off their official accounts.
As part of the investigation, a number of wiretaps have been released to the media which seem to implicate a number of the clubs directors in the wrongdoing. La Gazzetta dello Sport transcribed a number of the recordings that date back over the last two years:
President Andrea Agnelli to CEO Maurizio Arrivabene in a phone call recorded on September 3, 2022: “It wasn’t just COVID and we know that too well. After all, we clogged up the machine with amortization and above all the shit… because it’s all the shit that’s under there we cannot talk about.”
Arrivabene: “Calculating it all properly, we needed to increase capital by €650m, not €400m, to get it back on track.”
Former financial director Marco Re: “With the fairy tale that COVID gobbled up €340m, anyone’s nose would grow like Pinocchio.”
In one of the recordings, Sporting director Federico Cherubini suggested that the clubs problems dated back further than the deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo:
“The project built from Gonzalo Higuain onwards, it is a squad that is just getting older.”
Cherubini also made reference to former club DS Fabio Paratici, who is also under investigation, and some of the deals he made when he was at the club:
“I swear that there were evenings when I’d go back home and feel nauseous just thinking about it.”
