A possible heavy penalty looms over Roma, Lazio, and Gianluca Mancini following a number of incidents during Roma 1-0 Lazio. Sports Judge Gerardo Mastrandrea has requested an additional investigation from the Federal Prosecutor for racially and religiously motivated chants during the derby.
La Gazzetta dello Sport report that the focus is on the racially motivated chants by Lazio fans against Roma striker Romelu Lukaku, those by Roma fans against Matteo Guendouzi, and racial and religious discrimination chants by Lazio supporters against their opponents.
These are three aspects on which the judge has requested “specific investigative supplements by the Federal Prosecutor, acquiring in any case a report from the public order authorities.” Mastrandrea has also ordered an additional investigation “regarding any further events and behaviors by the affiliated members at the end of the match, providing, in any case, pursuant to art. 61, paragraph 1, last period, CGS, the transmission of the results of any investigations initiated ex officio (such as the celebration by Mancini, on which the Prosecutor has opened an investigation, editor’s note), for the purposes of the evaluations and final determinations within the competence of this Sports Judge.”
Asked about the match, Lazio president Claudio Lotito said: “There are games where things go well and others not so much, yesterday there was a game that perhaps, from a gameplay perspective, deserved a draw. Tudor? It’s too early to talk, I haven’t had much time to keep up with him, I know he’s now studying what could be the best formation for this team – Violence? I saw that the first arrested was a Roma fan, as for the rest, I am the symbol of the fight against violence.”
